Seeking a Boost
After a decade in manufacturing supply chain management, Levi Shook was ready to broaden his impact. His initial goal was to enhance his competitiveness in the market with an MBA. However, the online Master of Business Administration in Supply Chain program from the University of South Carolina Aiken led him to unexpected opportunities.
Levi began researching accredited online MBA programs, desiring to qualify for supervisory status in his field. “I was targeting more of a director or strategic level in the company,” he explained. “I’ve been doing manufacturing supply chain management for 10 years, so I was looking to become more competitive. That’s what prompted me to look into the MBA—to showcase that I have a full general understanding of the business acumen needed for higher roles.”
With a full-time job, a wife, and three kids, Levi needed a program that was both flexible and affordable. He was determined to maintain a healthy balance between work, family, community involvement, and study while staying within his budget. The USCA MBA online program checked all the boxes.
Finding Breakthrough
Despite Levi’s extensive field experience, the MBA in supply chain management equipped him with new techniques that he could immediately apply. The knowledge he acquired empowered him to contribute more and stand out in his workplace.
“I would learn something in the books or class and the very next day something would come up [at work] and I [could] describe what we should be doing to my boss or colleagues,” he said.
Levi took advantage of the many benefits of participating in this affordable MBA online program. Collaborative activities challenged him to interact with diverse groups of people and build networking relationships to leverage in his career pursuits, which soon took an unexpected turn.
Levi’s entrepreneurial spirit was awakened by the program’s engaging curriculum. While developing a marketing management plan for class, he was inspired to start a real business. A friend was so impressed with Levi’s completed marketing proposal that he requested to be Levi’s official client. Under the name Shook and Co., Levi and his wife now offer marketing planning, website development and process services for small businesses.
“We’ve started a business that we’re hoping to grow much larger,” Levi said with pride.
Now a technology and planning manager for a large metalworking company and the founder of his startup, Levi’s supply chain management MBA has proven lucrative. Making a reasonable investment of time and money led to priceless results.
